All the paintings in this collection were created using what we teach as the Painting for Joy Method. This method is essentially “batch painting” which allows the painter to simultaneously create multiple paintings at once by using a grid of tape to divide a large sheet of paper into smaller sections. Each section becomes a painting. In our approach, we use mixed media which means many different kinds materials can be used in the process…different kinds of paint as well as collage and various mark making supplies. Once all the sections of the grid are complete, we cut the sheet apart and are left with 6 small paintings. We don’t keep them all. Some, we’ve found become infinitely more great when we add a well-placed googly eye…but the joy of the process is what remains whether we keep every painting or not.
